hearing aid batteries?
this is for audiologists who read this question. I wear digital hearing aids. However, when I take the batteries out of the compartment the batteries die faster – why and how do I prevent this from happening
And my second question is if I leave the batteries in the compartment overnight it buzzes – why
I do just open the battery compartment but the batteries fall out
You are supposed to open the battery door to disconnect the battery from the hearing aid. This will allow for longer battery life as the battery is not powering the hearing aid with the door open. If battery falls out that is fine it is just an annoyance to have to put the battery back in again. Don’t know why you think the battery lasts longer when leaving it in hearing aid that should not be the case.
Hearing aid batteries are air activated. So once you remove the sticker from the battery the battery is draining. If you remove the sticker and never insert the battery into the aid eventually the battery will be dead because the battery drains very slowly once sticker removed. When you use the battery in the hearing aid obviously the battery drains faster as it is the power source for the device. So in order to extend the battery life when you are not wearing the hearing aid you are supposed to open the door or remove the battery from the aid. With battery in the aid and aid is not in ear it will squeal. This is called feedback. When sound coming out of the hearing aid gets back into the hearing aids microphone and is amplified again the squealing sound occurs. When the aid is in your ear the sound cannot get out of your ear easily as it is surrounded by your ear so it does not make the squealing sound.
Just open the door to the battery compartment; you don’t need to take them all the way out.
The buzzing is feedback.
