Every big change has to start somewhere, we have to make the first step in a positive direction. And yes most people are aware that petroleum is used in an endless list of products.

What would you rather everyone did? Stick their heads in the sand and keep on pretending that alternative energy doesn’t need to be found? Ignore the problem at hand? Keep the status quo?
At least we are concerned enough to want to do something. Even if you don’t believe in climate change (global warming) , the oil reserves won’t last forever.

no, we realize that petroleum isn’t just used in cars, but right now it’s only indispensable as an energy source for transportation, which is unfortunately what it is most commonly used for.
there’s really no argument against working toward alternative energy, the only issue is whether or not it’s too soon. eventually we will have no need for petroleum, and it would be to our benefit to have it as soon as possible.
Nobody has said it will remove the need for petroleum – only that it will REDUCE the need.
What’s your source for their belief it will ‘remove’ the need? Do you understand the difference between ‘reduce’ and ‘remove.’

Not remove, just reduce dramatically.
Better to do something good and make a small positive difference than do nothing and make no difference at all.
Lots of small changes CAN help like changing your energy supplier to help you save $100 per year. Hey, I’m never going to get rich from that but it does HELP.
You can’t always solve a problem straight away but you can begin a path towards an ultimate solution.
That’a because the liberal left just ain’t right.
Because they did not take Chemistry in High school are College, and they are not that bright, smart that is.
Reducing it will not help but stop polluting the air with Chemical waste from Plants, and Land fills and Clear cutting Forrest, polluting our rivers and stream, Off shore drilling . the list goes on of this that we can stop that would help the envoriment.
Because they don’t understand Chemistry, Physics or Engineering, they only understand good intentions.
